Ollie Irene is BRAND SPANKIN' NEW!!!
Chris Newsome, local owner, and head chef
opened the restaurant for business last month, naming it after his grandmother.
Chris said he would love to accomodate us for the week of September 19th,
possibly on Wed or Thurs. 
I need to know a definite head count and which day.
He has limited space, and wants to make sure we get the best experience. 

Ollie Irene is new, but already infamous for the fresh,
local and organic items they incorporate into their menu. 
The beer and cocktail selection are especially unique,
and I hear their interesting peach creations are a must to try! 

It might be a risk to try out a shiny, new restaurant with a large party, but... I think it's worth the risk ;)

CHOW DOWN IS A YEAR OLD!!!

(sorry for the late notice on this... I finally got in touch with the chef to coordinate everything!!)

Can you believe it's been a year since we first started Chow Down!

As you may remember, 26 was the first restaurant we tried out together last August, and since then we have experienced a little taste of the Birmingham local fare.  Let's continue the Chow Down tradition and try out more fun and exciting restaurants 

This month, we are going to ORE.  Taylor Hicks co-owns the restaurant, and makes surprise appearances... have your Sharpie ready, just in case he shows up ;)

There is no "happy hour" menu in place as of yet, but they intend to start one soon.

Joey Dickerson, the executive chef said he would work out a happy hour menu for us...

Specials would be similar to the following:

Here is an idea that might help with selecting a date for Chow Down each month. 

Starting in June, I am going to designate one week out of the month to be "Chow Down Week." 

For instance, the 3rd week of each month is "Chow Down Week"

The day will be determined by the food and drink specials the featured restaurant has at that time. 

If a holiday falls on the designated week, then we will cross that bridge when we come to it :)

Everyone has busy schedules, including Supper Clubs, meetings, etc., that occur each month, so I want to give you a chance to voice your opinion...

In March, we ventured out to Five Points South to get a "firey" taste of  Mexican flair at Fuego Cantina & Saloon.  Along with the delicious food, and great times with good friends, we also enjoyed the drink special of the night: $1 Tecates!  Yes sir, may I have another!

Dear Dodiyos,

You will be graced with our presence next Thursday, May 19th.  After a couple of attempts to dine at your fine establishment, I have faith that we will find a seat to call our own.  Amidst the aromas of fresh mediterranean flavors and greek inspired seasonings, we will toast our glasses of wine, and other non-alcoholic beverages, to allowing us to finally "chow down."

May Flowers in the Forecast

They say April showers bring May flowers... Well, after these horrible storms, that's the best we can hope for.  I hope you all are doing ok and didn't have serious damage due to the tornados. 

Jenn mentioned her Aunt and Uncle's house was hit pretty bad, and they were without a home.  So many are in this situation, but we are so fortunate to be alive and well with roofs over our heads.  For the next CHOW DOWN, let's all bring a few items to donate to their family and others who are in need.  If you know of any other families or friends that were affected and need help, please let us know. 

Jenn - tell us a range of sizes for clothing and shoes that we can provide for your family.

How is this Thursday, the 12th?  We could still go with our April plan, and go to Dodiyos if that's cool with everyone.

Hey Gals! 

I have been trying to think of some way to simplify notifying y'all about Chow Down.  Instead of the numerous reply all emails, I thought it would be easy to post about the upcoming Chow Down and let you all reply by comment.  This way, you can view the blog anytime and see the latest and greatest info!  What do ya think?!  Let's give it a try and see how it goes.
